  • What is epoxy resin and how long does it last?
Epoxy resin is a material used in artwork to seal, paint, and preserve flowers, as well as to create 3D resin sculptures. In its liquid state, resin is poured into moulds, where it then cures into a solid, glass-like finish with the durability and feel of acrylic. Once cured, it becomes a strong and long-lasting material. However, epoxy resin is sensitive to UV light and will gradually develop an amber or yellow tint over time. This discoloration is a natural part of the resin's aging process and cannot be entirely prevented. To minimize this effect, keep your resin pieces away from direct sunlight and heat. Coloured resin pieces tend to mask ambering better than clear ones.
  • Can you preserve my flowers in a custom piece? What is the process?
To begin, please contact us to check for availability and secure your spot. You'll need to purchase a Bouquet Drying Reservation Fee and choose the design or shape you wish to be created to confirm your reservation. After your event, ship your bouquet to us (detailed instructions will be included in your order confirmation email), and Alma Makes will handle the rest! Upon receiving your flowers, We will dry them using a specialized silica process that helps maintain their colour and shape. This drying stage takes approximately 2-4 weeks. Once dried, we will propose a design and share our concept with you. The casting process will then take an additional 4-10 weeks, depending on the complexity and size of the project. On average, the entire process takes about 4 months. Please note that unforeseen circumstances or multiple pieces may extend the timeline. Additionally, requests for design revisions, replacement flowers, or other modifications can also affect the completion time.
  • Can you create a perfect piece for me?
While we strive to craft something beautiful, perfection is not achievable. As all our work are handmade, some imperfections are natural and to be expected. Our focus is on preserving your flowers and transforming them into unique, personalized art. We will work with the materials provided to create a one-of-a-kind piece just for you. By choosing our services, you are investing in the time, skill, and dedication required to bring your project to life. Please be aware of a few factors beyond our control: (1) the condition and handling of your flowers during shipping, including the cost and care taken by the carrier; (2) how well the flowers survive the drying and casting process; and (3) the natural aging of the resin, which may cause it to amber or yellow over time.
  • How will my flowers look in resin?
Each flower is unique, and their appearance in resin can vary. Brightly coloured flowers (such as oranges, pinks, and blues) generally retain their vibrancy, while sturdier flowers like roses, carnations, and hydrangeas maintain their shape well. However, reds and purples often dry several shades darker, and whites may turn yellow or brown. White flowers are less ideal for preservation as their colour tends to fade more noticeably. Delicate flowers (such as tulips, lilies, and orchids) can be challenging and may develop translucent spots. Tropical flowers and those with high moisture content (like succulents, anthuriums, hypericum berries, and monstera leaves) often dry to a brown colour. Flowers can also become bruised from events or shipping, which may appear as bruised or translucent spots in the final resin piece. While we strive to work with the flowers we receive to achieve the best outcome, we cannot control how they dry or their reaction to the resin.
  • Do I need to book in advance?
Yes, booking at least one to two months in advance is highly recommended, as our schedule tends to fill up quickly. For memorial pieces, we set aside extra spots each month. However, if you have a last-minute request, please reach out, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
  • How soon after my event should I send my flowers?
It's best to send your flowers within a week of your event. Ideally, the flowers should arrive at the Alma Makes studio within 3-5 days for optimal preservation results.
  • Can I include personal items with my order?
Most plastic or wooden items, as well as photos and paper, can be beautifully cast in resin and make stunning centrepieces. Contact us to confirm if your personal items can be included.
  • What happens to my leftover flowers and pins from my wedding bouquet?
We will dispose of leftover flowers one week after your piece has been shipped out to you. We do not keep pins or ribbons unless requested. If you’d like us to save these items for you, please include this request in your message.
